Mark's list of surplus vendors

Compiled by Mark Whitis (whitis@freelabs.com).

Name brands are not better. In fact, they are usually worse. The name brand companies tend to use proprietary motherboard form factors. To replace your motherboards (in order to upgrade the processor) you have to replace the case as well.

Note to vendors: "$CALL" = Lost Sale

I just recently started a page on computer history links which may be useful to those considering a used machine.

Here are some more companies which advertise in computer shopper

Those dreadful online Auction houses

  • Onsale. Onsale has a dreadful little online auction house. You can get much better deals elsewhere with much less of your time. This place seems to attract idiots who do not know the fair market value of anything. Good for the vendors, then? Not by the time Onsale takes their cut.
  • eBay. Seems to have individual sellers. Far more anitques and collectibles than computers.
