Some relevent archive sites:

The simtel-20 msdos archive, mirrored at many sites (such as wuarchive.wustl.edu), has many related directories: bbs, bbsdoor, bbslist, fido, kermit, modem, offline, pibterm, qmodem, qmodem, rbbs_pc, telix, uucp, voicmail, waffle, and zmodem.

There is an archive of telecommunications related information (related to the newsgroup comp.dcom.telecom): telecom-archives directory.

V.32Bis
ITU-T full duplex modem modulation protocol for 14400/12000/7200 bps speeds, in addition to the speeds supported by V.32, over POTS lines. 2400 baud using a 2400 baud symbol rate. Summary (ITU-2889) Standard (ITU-10311)
V.32
ITU-T full duplex modem modulation protocol for 9600/4800 bps speeds over POTS lines using a 2400 baud symbol rate. standard (ITU-10293)
V.22bis
ITU-T full duplex modem modulation protocol for 2400bps speeds over POTS lines using a 2400 baud symbol rate.
Bell 212A
Bell Telephone full duplex modem modulation protocol for 1200bps speeds over POTS lines using a 1200 baud symbol rate in the United States. The name is derived from the model number of the modem which originally supported this protocol.
Bell 103
Bell Telephone full duplex modem modulation protocol for 300bps speeds over POTS lines using a 300 baud symbol rate in the United States. The name is derived from the model number of the modem which originally supported this protocol. Uses Frequency shift keying (FSK)
V.22
ITU-T full duplex modem modulation protocol for 1200bps speeds over POTS lines using a 1200 baud symbol rate.
V.33
V.17
ITU-T half duplex modem modulation protocol for facsimile (FAX) applications offering 14400/12000/9600/7200/4800/2400bps speeds over POTS lines using a 2400 baud symbol rate. Summary.
V.29
Standard (ITU-10261).
V.27ter
V.42
Standard (ITU-10319).
V.42bis
Data compression standard for use with V.42. ITU V.42bis Summary. Standard (ITU-9729).
V.24
EIA-232-D Interface.
V.34
Supports speeds of 2400 to 28800bps using symbol rates of 2400/2743/2800/3000/3200/3429baud. Press Release (ITU-11778).
V.FC
NOT an ITU standard. Supports speeds of 14400 to 28800bps using symbol rates of 2400/2800/3000/3200/3429baud. Modem manufacturers got impatient waiting for V.34 to be standardized so Rockwell created a defacto interim standard and a chipset to support it. Some companies (such as USR) licensed the standard from Rockwell but most use the Rockwell chipset. Rockwell has promised to make a compatible chipset to support V.34 and most V.FC manufacturers using that chipset have announced plans to upgrade their modems to V.34 when the new chipset is released. Some upgraded modems will support V.FC and V.34 but others will just support V.34
Class 1
A standard for communications between PC and FAX modems. See also Class 2. There is a document from Supra which describes the specification (class_1.txt). EIA/TIA-578 - Class 1 documentation
Class 2
This is a (non)standard for communications between PC and FAX modems. Impatient manufacturers began shipping products based on the draft specification. Unfortunately, there were some significant changes in the final specification which was renamed Class 2.0 to avoid confusion. There is a document from Supra which describes the (non)specification. class_2.txt
Class 2.0
This is a standard for communications between PC and FAX modems. There were a number of significant changes between the draft standard (refered to as Class 2) which many modem manufacturers implemented and the final specification which was renamed Class 2.0 to avoid confusion. You can order the specification (EIA/TIA-592) from TIA or Global.
