Scans of Whitis clan genealogy source documents
This page is maintained by

Updated 11/13/96. The home page
for geneology information pertaining to the Whitis Clan is at:
http://www.freelabs.com/~whitis/clan/whitis/
The fifty two pages of documents which appear here are scans of the
original pages I got from my father, who got them from my grandmother,
Ruth Josephine (Roome) Whitis.
Most of them are one bit deep 300dpi, 8-1/2x11 GIF images. Some
are 8 bit greyscale JPEG images; these are typically huge. If you
try to print these, you may need to reduce them slightly to fit on
your page. For the JPEG images, you will also want to adjust the
brightness before printing and make sure that your software does not
half tone the pages. Better yet, run the JPEGs through a
threshold filter (with the threshold set appropriately, not 50%)
before printing. I may process the JPEG images into GIFs later.
The GIF images take a total of about 5MB and the JPEGs total 15MB,
for a grand total of about 20MB of images.
Scans of the following documents are availible:
- Copy of a pedigree for Allison Burton Roome on A.B. Roome
stationary (May have been written by Lucile Bogardus or A. B. Roome)
which was obtained from the book _Descendents of Peter Willemse Roome_,
published in 1843 (345 pp). It also refers to Page 190
of "American Ancestry" Vol. XII.-1900 published by Joel Munsell's Sons,
Albany, NY. in 1899. Interestingly, there is some evidence
here that the family tree doesn't always fork (i.e. cousins
separated by several generations).

- A ppedigree like document tracing the ancesstry of Allison Burton Roome
back to Captain John Burton of salem (1607-1684). This was
aparrently written by Sarah Josephine Burton for Allison Burton Roome
(her son) on William Roome (her husband)'s stationary, probably in
the 1890's (three digits of the year are preprinted on the stationary).
